  1. I stopped tithing/giving a long time ago. I already know who is in control, who allows me to have a good job where I can pay my expenses and from time to time be able to bless others through stewardship and accountability.

  2. I agree…Isaiah 58 seems to be the Father’s target…NOT missing the mark. I attended a church where they have a 12 million debt for the building & then the preacher goes into a message regarding the tithe…a guilt trip really. Then he would ask the assembly to take out a dollar bill & pass it to the collecting usher for the ministry in Belize that took care of aids babies, all the while there were people in the congregation that were homeless, or single moms who struggled bcuz the dad’s left or abandoned them & they were never assisted cuz the money went to the building needs. That’s when individuals stepped forward to help, but more often than not it went without being known or made aware of.

    • Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Suzanne. I do think, as you suggested, that modern teachings on “tithes and offerings” are driven to a large degree by the need to maintain expensive church buildings.

  3. When asked about paying the temple tax Jesus asked ” From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes? From their own sons or others?”. …… “Then the sons are exempt”. It says sons not son. As sons of God we likewise are exempt. We are no longer servants but sons and don’t realize the honor it bestows.
